Hurt in Central Florida? Get an Orlando personal injury lawyer who treats you like family.
An Orlando personal injury lawyer takes on the insurance companies after someone else’s carelessness hurts you, so you can focus on healing. Sunshine State Law Firm represents injured people across Florida from our Winter Park office: crashes, falls, drownings and wrongful death. The case review is free, and there’s no fee unless we recover.
After an injury, waiting costs more than you think
We’re sorry this happened. One moment you were driving to work or walking into a store, and now there are doctors, bills and phone calls you never asked for.
The insurance company has adjusters and lawyers whose job is to pay you as little as possible. Here’s what that usually looks like, and what it can cost you.
The fast, low offer
A quick check before you know how badly you’re hurt, in exchange for signing away the rest of your claim.
The friendly recorded call
An adjuster asks how you’re feeling. “I’m okay” can later be used to argue you weren’t really hurt.
The bills that won’t wait
Medical bills, missed paychecks and a car in the shop keep stacking up while the claim drags on.
What waiting can cost you
The 14-day window
After a Florida crash, see a doctor within 14 days or your PIP may not cover your treatment.
The two-year deadline
Most Florida negligence claims must be filed within two years. After that, the claim can be gone for good.
The blame game
If the insurer pins more than half the fault on you, Florida law bars your recovery entirely.
Paying out of pocket
PIP tops out at $10,000. Surgery and months of therapy can cost far more.
The insurance company has a team. Now you do too.

Injury cases we handle in Orlando and across Florida
Every case starts the same way: someone else wasn’t careful, and you got hurt. What changes is who’s responsible, which insurance applies and what evidence matters most. Pick the one closest to what happened to you, or just call and tell us your story.
Car accidents
Rear-end crashes in I-4 traffic, T-bones at busy intersections, highway rollovers. We sort out PIP, the other driver’s insurer and your own uninsured motorist coverage.
Car accidents: how we helpMotorcycle accidents
Florida’s no-fault PIP doesn’t cover riders, so the other driver’s coverage and your own uninsured motorist policy matter even more.

Passenger, driver or the other car: rideshare crashes bring extra insurance layers, including the company’s policy during a trip.

Hit in a crosswalk, a parking lot or on International Drive. Your own PIP may pay first, and the driver’s insurer owes the rest.

Florida law, in plain words
How injury claims work in Florida
Florida has its own rules for who pays after an injury, and several changed in 2023. Here’s the short version, so you know what the adjuster already knows.

PIP pays first, no matter who caused the crash
Every Florida driver carries $10,000 in personal injury protection. It pays 80% of reasonable medical bills and 60% of lost income, up to that limit. You must get treatment within 14 days, and without an emergency medical condition diagnosis, medical benefits can be capped at $2,500.
The at-fault driver’s insurance covers the rest
When PIP runs out, the at-fault driver’s bodily injury coverage is the next stop. Florida doesn’t require most drivers to carry it, so we also look at your own uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. To claim pain and suffering after a car crash, Florida law requires a permanent injury, significant scarring or a death.
Fault is shared, and it changes the math
Since March 2023, Florida uses modified comparative negligence. If you’re found partly at fault, your recovery shrinks by that percentage. If you’re found more than 50% at fault, you recover nothing. That’s why insurers work so hard to shift the blame.
Property owners owe you a safe place
Stores, hotels, apartment complexes and pool owners must keep their property reasonably safe. In a slip on a wet floor at a business, Florida law requires proof the owner knew, or should have known, about the hazard. Evidence like video and cleaning logs disappears fast.
Deadlines and coverage depend on the facts of your case. A free case review is the fastest way to know where you stand.
What you can recover
A fair recovery covers more than the first ER bill. It accounts for everything the injury took from you, including what it will keep costing after the case is closed. We work with your doctors to put a real number on future care before we ever talk settlement.
Medical bills, now and later
ER visits, surgery, therapy, prescriptions and the care your doctors say you’ll need in the future.
Lost wages and earning power
The paychecks you missed while healing, and the income you lose if you can’t go back to the same work.
Pain and suffering
The physical pain, the stress and the parts of life you can’t enjoy the way you used to.
Your car and your belongings
Repair or replacement, a rental while you wait, and the things damaged in the crash.
Scarring and disfigurement
Injuries that change how you look or move, and how that affects your daily life.
Losses after a death
Funeral costs, lost support and the loss of companionship and guidance for a spouse, children and parents.

Questions about Orlando injury cases
No question is a dumb question. Here are the ones we hear most.
Nothing up front. We work on a contingency fee, which means our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you, and you owe no attorney’s fee if we don’t recover. Florida requires the agreement to be in writing, and we walk you through it, including how case costs are handled, before you sign.
For most negligence claims, including car crashes and slip and falls, Florida gives you two years from the date of the injury. Wrongful death claims also have a two-year deadline, and claims against a government agency have their own notice rules. Evidence fades well before any deadline, so it helps to call early.
Florida injury deadlines, explainedYou can still recover as long as you’re not found more than 50% at fault, but your recovery is reduced by your share. Insurers know this, so they often argue fault early. We gather the crash report, witness statements, photos and video to push back.
How Florida’s comparative fault rule worksNot always. If you weren’t hurt and only your car was damaged, you may be fine on your own. If you’re hurt, missing work, facing surgery or getting pressure from an adjuster, a free conversation can show you what you’re owed. We’ll be honest if you don’t need us.
Do I need a personal injury lawyer? Many cases settle within several months to a year, but it depends on your treatment and how the insurer responds. We don’t settle before we know the full cost of your care. If the insurer won’t be fair, a lawsuit takes longer, and we keep you updated the whole way.
No. Our Winter Park office serves Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties, and we have offices in Tampa and Jacksonville too. We represent injured people across Florida, and we can meet by video or come to you.
Most injury cases settle without a trial. We prepare every case as if it could go to court, because insurers make better offers when they know you’re ready. If going to trial is the right call, we’ll explain why and what to expect.
